--the fact a lot of online abuse replicates societal power structures and the people who engage in abusive behavior under their wallet names are people with societal power enforcing those power structures against people without societal power and so they feel justified and don't care who sees it.

That's mostly the same audience under three different commenting paradigms, and while there inevitably was some audience shift as people unwilling to use the new system left, it's still enough continuity that I think it disproves the self-selection theory!
